We had our first big New England snow storm of the year! I snowed for an entire day and gave the horses some wonderful footing in the paddock! The horses were playful with each other in the snow and almost all of them rolled around giving themselves ‘snow baths’ as Alicia likes to call them. The snow is fluffy still because we are going through a bit of a cold snap. Very early to have this type of weather but we certainly don’t mind it. We, and the horses, much prefer snow to rain.

As the cold air begins to seep in, the horse’s coats are getting thicker and their bellies are getting a little bit bigger. In order to stay warm, we have started to feed them more hay and grain each morning and night so that when the temperatures are in the single digits and the snow comes, we won’t have an cold ponies! We are getting ready for our Holiday Camp which will run from December 26th to January 1st. This is usually our biggest off-season gathering, besides October Weekend, and we have fun taking care of the ponies, cooking warm and delicious food, kitting or doing arts & crafts, and hopefully some sledding if we are lucky with early snow. We are looking forward to all of the wonderful ladies coming back and spending a week with us during their school vacation.
This November, the temperature has fluctuated between being in the teens and now in the upper 40’s. The horses are doing incredibly well dealing with the changes of temperature and many are well on their way to having a full winter coat. Some of them a quite fluffy and have begun to store away extra food for their winter layer 🙂 We love our horses looking healthy and well-fed in the winter time. We are serving out significantly more hay and grain than the summertime, and soon they will be getting full winter servings!
As the summer wound down a little while ago, we took a little bit of time to reflect and enjoy the fall weather. We have been off of our technology devices and enjoying mother nature. We apologize for a lack of blog postings, but we hope you were all able to enjoy a lovely fall with minimal technology use. As winter is beginning to settle in, we are starting to work inside on the computer again. The warm fall was a special treat and now we are gearing up for Holiday Camp and winter! Summer is our favorite season, but all of us at the end of the road certainly do love the soft, beautiful snow. We are all eager to get the first snowfall of the year. We will post pictures to our social media and work hard to keep you updated on how the farm is changing over the seasons.
With summer campers come new summer animals as well. This summer, we have a Hungarian Vizsla joining us from Virginia. Alicia, who is helping out the full-time Alicia in the kitchen, has joined us for the entire summer with her horse, Ruby, and her dog, Laszlo. We could not be more excited to have new summer friends here, not to mention, the campers love having more farm dogs and horses!
