Applicants for lifeguard positions should possess:
1. Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding credentials with an open water designation or the equivalent issued by the YMCA, or be willing and able to pass a Road’s End Farm sponsored Red Cross Lifeguarding course just prior to the camp season.
2. The physical stamina and mental attentiveness to guard for as many as three 40-minute shifts each day with 20 minute rest periods in between.
3. The ability to safely guard groups of 25 to 30 swimmers of varying abilities from beginner to advanced in a lakefront setting that includes two rafts floating 8 inches above water level and a lake bottom that deepens the swimming area gradually from the shoreline.
4. The ability to safely guard groups or 15 to 20 swimmers of varying abilities from beginner to advanced in a river setting where a mild current and an uneven bottom are typical.
5. American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies credentials or better, or be willing and able to pass a Road’s End Farm sponsored Red Cross first aid course just prior to the camp season.
